Boyd Houston Pepper passed away November 27, 2021, at the age of 91. He was born July 25, 1930, in Oak Hill, Texas.
Boyd grew up in Henderson, Texas, and graduated from Henderson High School in 1948. He attended Kilgore Jr. College and shortly after joining the Air Force, he married Carmen Osburn in 1952. They moved to Tampa, Florida, where Boyd trained to become a radar technician specialist on B-29 bombers. Boyd was a Korean War Veteran and was stationed in England and Okinawa.
After serving in the military, Boyd had a long career as an electrical engineer working for Chance Vought, LTV and E-Systems. He worked on the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Space programs. He also worked on A-7 fighter jets. Later, he worked on the original mail sorting system used by the USPS.
Boyd and Carmen were married 62 years when Carmen passed away in 2014. After moving to Garland in 1963, they joined the First Baptist Church where he was a member for 58 years and was ordained as a deacon in 1966. Boyd loved singing in church and always served in the choir and sometimes a soloist. While still in high school, he spent two summers attending the Stamps-Baxter School of Music.
Boyd was a Master Mason and was a member of Lodge 441 in Garland and received recognition for being a 60-year member in 2015.
Boyd retired early to enjoy traveling in his RV, golfing, and fishing. He was the family historian, loved going to visit distant family members, attending family reunion and doing research for family genealogy which he completed in his 80's. He also loved taking care of his yard and all his plants.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen; his parents, mother, Lorine, and step-father, Clifford Waller of Pittsburg, Texas; father, Vernon Houston Pepper; brother, Bobby Pepper; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Cox.
Survived by: son, Brendon A. Pepper and wife, Michelle; granddaughter, Heather Pepper and spouse, Brett Stallard; great-grandchildren, Beau Stetson and Piper Jane Stallard; daughter, Cita Sue Cox and husband, Ronnie; grandson, Justin Cox and wife, Lana; great-grandsons, Chandler and Barrett Cox; grandson, Jordan Cox and wife, Amber; great-granddaughters, Ariana and Charlie Cox; half-brother, Floyd Pepper and wife, Jeanette; half-sister, Inell Whitehead and husband, Worth.
Visitation and services will be Friday, December 3, 2021, in the chapel at First Baptist Church, Garland, Texas. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. The graveside service will be Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bivins Community Cemetery, 3201-3399 CR-4223, in Bivins, Texas.
