Obituary

Winona Wooten Foley, 88, formerly of Greenville, TX, passed away April 1, 2024 in Garland, TX after living a full life at her home where she had resided for 34 years.

Winona was born to Noah C. and Osceola Lacks Wooten as the youngest of eight children on July 6, 1935 in Hunt County.  She graduated from Greenville High School in 1953, and later met and wed Billy John Foley in June 1955 at Grace Temple Baptist Church, Greenville, TX.  They had three children together, William Roland in 1956, Nona Kay in 1961 and John David in 1968.  Winona and Billy John moved to Garland in 1962.  Winona was a devoted wife and mother, and began working for Garland I.S.D. in 1983 and retired in 2001 after seventeen years of service.  After retirement she enjoyed spending time traveling, visiting her sisters and the company of her family and friends.

Winona always valued being an active part of the Baptist Missionary Association.  In 1964 she became a member of Northside Baptist Church, Garland, TX.  She spent almost 60 years serving there.  In that time she taught Junior High Girls, the Ladies Sunday School Class, was the Director of Prime Timers Ministry and served in several other capacities as well.  One of her favorite contributions was writing her own Bible Study curriculum.

She is survived by her son Roland Foley of Farmersville, daughter and son-in-law Nona and Jed Dockery of Garland, and their two children, Alecia and Joe Dockery, and son David and his wife Amber Foley of Garland and their two children, Hannah and Jacob Resnick and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Billy John, parents Noah and Osceola, siblings Earl Wooten, Stella Ray, Lucy Luttrell, Ruth Currin, Martha Campbell, Paul Wooten, Naomi Wooten, and daughter-in-law, Gayla, wife to Roland.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6 at Rodgers Baptist Church, 801 W. Buckingham Rd., Garland, TX at 12 noon, preceding the funeral services at 1pm officiated by Pastor Travis Gilbert.  Interment will be held at Sachse Cemetery following services.
