William "Bill" Horn

1942-2024

Bill Horn was born in Haynesville, Louisiana on April 20, 1942 and passed into the arms of his Savior October 12, 2024 in Wylie, Texas. He was 82 years old. He graduated High School from Texas City, and earned his master's degree from University of North Texas; where he also was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Bill pursued a life in education, helping and shaping the minds of his community's youth for all his life. He was an assistant principal at Memorial Middle School, principal of Toler Elementary, and ended his career in Administration for Garland ISD of 40 years total in education. He was also passionate about all sports, coaching several different types but having a true passion for track and pole vaulting. He even enjoyed running as a hobby throughout his life. Bill made a lasting impact on so many of the children and young adults that he taught and coached throughout the years. Many that he taught throughout his career kept in touch with him throughout his life.

Bill is also remembered for his love for his family, and often was called by his children and stepchildren for help with recipes, especially his gumbo and boiled shrimp! He loved to garden and learn and teach his family's history and genealogy, growing their family's legacy in more ways than one. In his spare time he adored going dancing with his wife of 25 years, Donna, and spending time antique shopping.

Bill is fondly remembered as a husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather. His life was spent in the service of others; helping his community and teaching them. His legacy touched the lives of so many and he will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife, Donna Horn; his daughters, Christi Freeman and husband Jay and his granddaughters Parker and Presley; Lizzie Hutchings and husband Logan, his grandson Hilton and granddaughter Harlowe; stepchildren; Shelly Baldwin and husband Mike, his granddaughter Monica Hogan and husband Cole; and Matt Morrow and wife Ashley, and his granddaughter Savannah.
