Travis Wayne Schmoekel

September 18, 1990 – August 30, 2024

With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son, Travis Wayne Schmoekel, on Friday, August 30, 2024.  Travis was born in Dallas and lived in Garland with his family.  He graduated from South Garland High School in 2009.

Travis had a gentle soul and a full heart for everyone he loved.  He was a loyal son, brother and friend who cared for others far more than he did himself.  He had an artistic nature and sought peace in drawing.  He designed many of his own tattoos.  Travis embraced animals like family and was heartbroken when his beloved chocolate lab, Doobie, passed away in May 2019.  His cat, Nala, was a solace to him.

Despite having hemophilia, Travis enjoyed an active life, playing soccer, skateboarding, rollerblading and extreme biking as a child and young man, often causing severe angst for his parents.  Travis was a swimmer on the South Garland High School team.  He loved all types of water sports and enjoyed more than 20 years of family reunions at Lake Whitney where he liked to fish and would jet ski, waterski, and wakeboard.  Travis liked to watch the Cowboys and Rangers, but would almost burst with pride in his brother Devin's hockey skills.

He spent much of his time looking after Marcy Lassiter, a neighbor and mother to his friend Jason Lassiter.  He helped Marcy with chores around her house, with her dogs and often had dinner with her the one night a week he didn't work.  That was the kind of man he grew to be.

Travis was preceded in death by grandparents, Alfred Schmoekel, Sharon Heuss, and Richard and Judy Trout.  He is survived by parents David and Sherri Schmoekel, brothers Kyle and Devin Schmoekel, step-grandmother Pam Porter, step-grandfather Bob Trout, great-aunt Mary Jane Heyer, aunts Cheryl Heuss, Cynthia Webb (Mau Tran), Chris Thompson (Scott), cousins Brandi Crum (Chris) and Jared Thompson, nephew Jean-Luc Burns, and extended family both in Texas and Pennsylvania.
