Obituary

Sylvia Earle Hunter, born June 27, 1937, in Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2024. A loving mother to three, she shared 68 beautiful years with her husband, Jim, whom she met at Adamson High School. When her daughter Patti was born with Down Syndrome in 1957, Sylvia became a passionate advocate for special education and pioneered many opportunities that were previously unavailable to the Special Needs community. She dedicated her life to uplifting others, teaching English as a second language to underserved individuals through First Baptist Church Richardson's International Friends Ministry. A world traveler and music lover, she cherished her family, particularly her nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. Throughout her life, Sylvia wore many hats while being an amazing homemaker. She was a successful real estate broker, property manager, and co-founder of Beds and Windows, an interior design company she ran with Jim for 20 years. An avid reader, she found solace in the works of Agatha Christie, Larry McMurtry and many others. Preceded in death by her parents W.R. and Earle Jordan; sisters Shirley Roan and Linda Hewitt; and daughter Patricia Hunter. She is survived by her beloved husband Jim, daughter Denise Janes and husband Phil, and son Jeffrey Hunter and wife Kelly. The family will be laying Sylvia to rest in a private graveside service Saturday, September 28, 2024. There will be a memorial service at First Baptist Church Richardson, November 2, 2024 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, with special consideration for the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas, Alzheimer's Association, or Parkinson's Foundation. Sylvia's unwavering faith in Jesus and her legacy of love will forever be remembered.
