Suzanne Lynn
Rell Ferguson
Jan 25, 1958 — Mar 27, 2023
Garland
Suzanne Rell Ferguson loving wife, outstanding teacher and devoted mother, daughter, and sister, passed away March 27, 2023. She had a remarkable 17-month journey battling a glioblastoma, which ultimately brought her life to a close.
Suzanne was born January 25, 1958, in Camden, NJ to Harold and Barbara Rell, and graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School, Class of 1977. She then attended Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV, transferred to and graduated from Trenton State College in Ewing, NJ in 1981.
Suzanne was a teacher of young children for most of her career. She taught in several private pre-schools before joining the Garland Independent School District where she touched the lives of many students and retired after 29 years in 2014. Suzanne was celebrated as All District Educator of the Year in 2010-2011. She loved working with children and raising one of her own, Thomas John (TJ), and once said: Having a family and raising her son was all she ever wanted.
Her hobbies were many, including an extensive sewing machine collection as well as, crocheting, beading, and gardening. She loved making dresses and quilts and helping others learn to sew.
Following her retirement from teaching, she had a second career with Husqvarna Viking, that combined her love of teaching with her love for sewing, selling embroidery/sewing machines and teaching classes.
Suzanne is survived by her beloved husband, Charles E. Ferguson of Garland, TX, mother, Dr. Barbara S. Rell of Haddonfield, NJ and sister, Barbara (Bobbe) Rell-Young of New York, NY. She is preceded in death by her beloved son Thomas John (TJ) Ferguson, father, Harold S. Rell, brother, David Rell and brother-in-law, Ken Young.
The family would like to express our thanks to the doctors and staff at UT Southwestern for the medical care they provided on her journey and to Methodist Richardson for the loving hospice care they provided to Suzanne.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Williams Funeral Directors from 6:00-8:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM in Williams Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in Garland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the "Suzanne Rell Ferguson Endowed Scholarship in Early Education" at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi which is being created to support students pursuing a degree in the field of interdisciplinary studies with a focus in elementary education.
