Steve Santoyo
Ortiz
Dec 14, 1943 — Dec 4, 2022
Steve Santoyo Ortiz, 78 passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022, peacefully at his home in Rockwall, Texas. He was born on December 14, 1943 in Bennett, Texas to Conrado and Soledad Ortiz. Steve was married to Gloria Rosas Ortiz for 60 years. He was a successful business owner and entrepreneur for 25 years following prolific careers managing carpentry, construction, and plumbing trades at Richardson Independent School District and as a head baker at several large grocery stores. Steve and Gloria lived in Garland, Texas for 28 years before moving back to Mineral Wells, Texas in 2000 upon the completion of their dream home which he designed and built himself on their large property. He was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mineral Wells. They moved to Rockwall in 2021 to be closer to their immediate family. Steve found joy in wood working, creating interesting food combinations or "Grandpa weird" as his family called them, watching the Dallas Cowboys but only if they were winning and shopping for unique antiquities. But most of all, his greatest joy was his family. He was hardworking and always made sure he took care of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his dogs. Steve was funny and had a hilarious story about everyone in his life. His laugh was infectious and all those around him couldn't help but join in the laughter.
Steve was loved by many and he will greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marcelo "Chelo", Mike, Bernardo and John and sisters, Consuelo "Connie", Mercedes and Josephine "Josie". Steve is survived by his wife, Gloria, daughters, Laura Garrett of Garland, Texas and Stephanie Kirch of Largo, Florida; his son, Steven Ortiz of Rockwall, Texas; grandsons Zachary Garrett of Royse City, Texas and Taylor Garrett, his wife Bryn and their children, Hunter, Everelee and Kolton of Greenville, Texas and his sisters, Lupe Trevino and Tomasa "Tommie" Gonzales of Mineral Wells, Texas and his faithful dog, Jackie.
