Shirley Ann Wilhite was born to parents Fred and Ethel Wilhite. She graduated from Decatur High School. She went to nursing school after high school and worked as a nurse in a local hospital. She met her handsome husband Paul Rhodes when she was 21 years old. Shirley and Paul were married on January 17, 1964. Their first child Joel was born in Late 1964. Laurie was born in 1965. Paul Jr. was born in 1968. Richard was adopted in 1972. William was born in 1973. They lived in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee before settling down in Minnesota in 1973. They moved to Texas in 1986 and remained in Texas ever since. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Joel, and Richard, and so many loved ones.
Shirley has four grandchildren; Amber, Kali, Hannah, and Thomas. Shirley has two great grandchildren; Terra, and Jimmy 4th. Shirley has many, many adopted children and grandchildren. So many people's lives have been touched by her love and generosity. Shirley enjoyed babysitting and having school lessons with newborns, toddlers, and school age children. Just as much as teaching and telling stories, she enjoyed feeding everyone.
Shirley enjoyed so many activities. She always had a book nearby; she could sit and read for hours. If she wasn't reading, she was listening to music or singing. Lawrence Welk was a Sunday evening ritual. She enjoyed time at the cabin on Big Pine Lake. She loved fishing with her family. Shirley was the Scrabble Master, she knew the rules, and called anyone out for a mistake or rule violation. Her favorite jewelry was turquoise, opals, and silver. Shirley always had a pet cat. They were always spoiled and well fed. Her current cat Annabelle will continue to be spoiled in her name.
