In loving memory of the esteemed Samuel Willie Franklin, a cherished father, grandfather, and veteran, known for his generous spirit and unwavering love, who passed away on September 5, 2024, in Rowlett, Texas, at the age of 79. Samuel, born on June 3, 1945, in Houma, Louisiana, was a proud African American man with an unyielding dedication to his family and country.
Samuel, a man with the biggest heart and kindness that knew no bounds, lived his life with passion and love for his family. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in the midst of nature, enjoying hunting, fishing, and flying remote-controlled planes. He was a devoted fan of westerns, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Rangers. His love and connection to his family were unparalleled, and his favorite place was always by their side.
Having grown up in Houma, Louisiana, Samuel graduated from Southdown High School and went on to serve his country with honor as a Marine for 21 years, achieving the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant E8. Following his military career, he continued his service in the field of education, working for the Garland Independent School District.
He is preceded in death by his father Arther Swing and his mother Ivory King. His oldest son, Samuel W. Franklin Jr. His two brothers; Levi Johnson, Freddy Swing and his sister Kathy Warren.
Samuel will forever be remembered by his children; Sherman W. Franklin (son), Shana D. Simpson (daughter), Angela P. Franklin (daughter), Patricia C. Luttrell (daughter), Peggie S. Luttrell (daughter), and Bobbie J. Huckabee (bonus daughter). His grandchildren who he greatly adored; Tynisia (Justin) Hains (granddaughter), her kids: Aaliyah, Sariah, and Everly. Lamar Simpson (grandson) his kids: Greg Jr., Jeremiah, Teonna, Luke, and Devion. Trent "Turbo" (Erica) Franklin (grandson), their kids: Blake, Skyler, Addison, Tyson, and Tatum. Larissa (Randy) Mitchell (granddaughter) their son: Ivan Mitchell. Dale Simpson (grandson) his kids: Kendrick, Zaliyah, and Freeman Jr. Shanda Simpson (granddaughter) and her kids: Daveion, Sidney, and Omarie. Samantha (Jeremy) Taylor (granddaughter) and their kids: Aaliyah, Jeremy Jr., and Deontae. Alexis Blake (granddaughter), her kids: Zayne, and Hendrix. Timothy Simpson (grandson), his kids: Tristan, and Timothy. Myah (granddaughter) her kids: Amora, and Skylar. Taylor Luttrell (granddaughter), her daughter: Zoey also his grandchildren, Aiden, Gambit, Sophia, Kera, Allie and Carter. His two sisters, Jeanette Jones and Hilda M. Benjamin. Also, a very intricate part of Samuel's life was Charles King Jr. who was a second dad to him and treated him as if he was his own son. He will be greatly missed by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. A special recognition to his best buddy (like a brother) J.R. Serna. His memory will live on through future generations and the impact he made on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

His Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, September 20th, 2024. The ceremony will honor his life, service, and the love he shared with all those around him. It is a time for family and friends to come together to pay tribute to a remarkable man who touched the lives of so many.
As we gather to celebrate his life, we remember Samuel for the love and joy he brought to us all. In his memory, let us continue to cherish the moments we shared and the legacy he leaves behind. Samuel Willie Franklin will forever hold a special place in our hearts and will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. May he rest in peace, his memory cherished always.
