Sammye Evans
Martin
Nov 12, 1947 — Jan 22, 2024
Garland
Sammye Dale Evans Martin was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma November 12, 1947 to Samuel and Winnifred Evans. Sammye was the younger sister to Jerry and Robyn. She died in her home on January 22, 2024 following a long battle with cancer. Her family insists she was not named for her Father, but her older brother, Jerry, did have some influence in naming her. (Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were popular at the time of her birth. The name,Trigger, was quickly taken out of consideration.)
Except for one year as a high school math teacher, Sammye was a homemaker. She was a life long member of the church of Christ, most recently at Centerville Road Church of Christ in Garland. Her great accomplishment in life was seeing her children and grandchildren becoming Christians. Sammye was an avid reader and was accomplished at needle work.
Sammye wanted to be a fun and memorable grandmother. Her maternal Grandmother, Alice, was her role model for being a grandmother. She hoped that her grandchildren would remember her for the fun times she had with them. Sammye wanted them to be her legacy since they are likely to be the last people that have any recollection of her. Hopefully, Sammye can be a role model for them.
Sammye was the long suffering wife of Wayne for 54 years. If you know Wayne, you will understand. Sammye is survived by her husband, Wayne; Sons: Douglas (Sarah), and Dennis; Granddaughters: Lainey, Evangeline, and Kenley; Sister: Robyn (Tom Lambrecht); Nephews/Niece: Mark Lambrecht (Amy), Bradley Lambrecht (Sunny), and Angela Evans; Great Nephews/Nieces: Aidan Lambrecht, Jack Lambrecht, Patrick Lambrecht, Erica Lambrecht, Grayson Goerdel, and Charlotte Goerdel
Her parents, Samuel and Winnifred, and her Brother, Jerry, preceded her in death.
The family would like to thank the employees of Ameritouch Home Health Care and Heart to Heart Hospice for their kind service and care.
The death of a loved one is always difficult and sad. It was Sammye's wish that those attending would have fond memories of her and would freely exchange those memories with others. Laughter is encouraged.
