Ronald Edward Close

1955-2025

Ronald Edward Close (Daddy, Ronny, Daddy-Ron, Grampa-Ron, Coach, and most recently Paw Paw) was born in Frankfort-on-Main, Germany (US Army base) on May 21, 1955, to Betty and Sylvander Close. He later lived in San Francisco, California and Tombstone, Arizona. Most of his early childhood was spent living in Milano, Texas with his loving grandparents Ella (Maw Maw) and William (Paw Paw) Morgan.

He later moved to Dallas, TX where he continued his education and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. In 1973, he married the love of his life, Myrna, and they were happily married for 42 years. He graduated from ETSU (Texas A&M, Commerce) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, with a double major in Math and History. Ron taught math and coached various sports at Seagoville Middle School for 22 years until he retired. Less than a year later, he came out of retirement and taught Geometry and other math courses at Seagoville High School for an additional 10 years.

Ron enjoyed playing and coaching all sports, especially baseball. He loved nature and outdoor activities including camping, hiking, and fishing. He also appreciated classical music. He was an avid reader of westerns and adventure novels. He was a master of crossword puzzles and an expert in Sudoku. Ron never met a stranger and always went out of his way to help anyone in need. Everyone that knew him loved him.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Myrna Close; his brother Van Close and wife Cheryl Close; his daughters, Jennifer Slater and husband Ryan Slater, and Veronica Hash and husband Will Hash; and his grandchildren, Meagan Nelson, Nicholas Slater, Delaney Slater, and Morgan Hash.

He is also survived by his nephew and niece, Erich Biggs and Laura Williams, sisters-in-law; Susan Kine and Beverly Selman, brother-in-law; Larry Kine; cousins, Johnny and Susie Morgan and Sherri Morgan; step-father, Harold Foerster; and a host of friends and extended family, including the young minds he helped to shape and teach throughout his life.

He was preceded in passing by his grandparents; Ella (Maw Maw) and William (Paw Paw) Morgan, mother and father, Betty Morgan and Sylvander Close; sister, Christine Biggs; niece, Vanessa Close, mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Alfred Kine; aunt and uncles, Joe and Floy Morgan, and John Morgan, and brother-in-law Preston Kine.

He will be dearly missed by his loving family, and his legacy will continue to shape their lives forever.

Memorial services for Ron will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 10:00AM at Williams Memorial Chapel in Garland, TX. The family will hold a small reception for fellowship following the service, in the Williams Bluebonnet Hall adjacent to the chapel.
