Roger G.
Self
Jul 3, 1951 — Jan 25, 2026
Garland
Roger G. Self, dearly beloved family man and proud veteran, completed his earthly journey on Sunday morning, January 25, 2026. He was 74 years old.
Roger was born on July 3, 1951, in Morton, Texas, to Arlie and Louella Self. He graduated from Hobbs High School in Hobbs, New Mexico, and went on to serve his country honorably in the United Sates Navy from 1970 to 1979, including tours in Japan and Guam.
On February 5, 1972, Roger married the love of his life, Kathleen "Kathy" Self. Together they shared 53 years of marriage, building a life rooted in commitment, loyalty, and devotion to family.
After completing his military service, having served as a First-Class Petty Officer, Roger moved his family to the Dallas area, where he began a long and dedicated career in the electronics field. He continued working until his retirement at the age of 62.
A quiet and thoughtful man, Roger found contentment in simple pleasures. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, working on his computer, and spending time at home. In November of 2019, Roger became a Catholic, a decision that reflected his reflective and sincere nature. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love was shown through his steady presence, reliability, and care for those closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Louella Self, and his niece, Amy Droke. Roger is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Kathy Self; by his children, Jennifer Self, Kimberly Self, and Christopher Self; by his son-in-law, Guri Perez; by his grandchildren Jonathan Perez, Jacob Perez and Sofia Perez; as well as his sister, Sandra Droke, and her husband Bill Droke, and nephew Daniel Droke.
Roger will be remembered with love, gratitude, and respect by all who knew him.
