Rick Andrews, AKA "Harold Richard Andrews", "Son", "Dad", "Brother", "Sarge", "LT", "Tracy Mae", passed away on July 3, 2023.

He was born on October 14, 1956, the first child of Bobbie and Harold Andrews.

As a child he was quite mischievous, fun loving, and admired by his younger brother Randy.

As we grew, he started to find his own way in the world. Sneaking out to spend countless nights with his friends, yet he never managed to evade his father, who was always waiting for him to try and sneak back in.

He graduated from North Garland Highschool where he was a member of the Red Raider Drum Corp, playing in the marching band during the football season and the concert band in the off season.

After Highschool he attended both Texas Tech University, and the University of Texas at Dallas, where he would graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Public Administration.

He was married for a time to Linda Mercer, with whom he had two children, Richard and Stephen. If you knew him at all, you knew his children were his pride and joy in life. Loving them more than anything.

Rick always had an interest in looking after those around him, which eventually lead him to joining the Dallas Police Department in 1979. His sense of duty to people would serve him well. He held a deep desire to protect everyone, family, friend and stranger alike.

At work he was known as "Sarge" or "Lt". His management style went by the philosophy of "Take care of your troops, and they'll take care of you." He did and they did.

During his time on the force, Rick earn 63 commendations and 3 awards.

On July 2, 2014 after 35 years and 5 of months, and 3 days of service, he retired.

When not holding the line, He enjoyed breaking even at poker. On one blue mooned evening, he did win big. Unfortunatly, in his joy of victory, he forgot to secure his winnings from the roof of the car, and the glass jar full of nickels, dimes and quarters ended up all over the streets of Dallas.

One of his greatest joys was taking long rides on his motorcycle, enjoying the freedom of the open road and the companionship of his fellow club members, who gave him the name "Tracy Mae" in honor of his long hair.

He was many things to many people, and we will all miss him dearly.
