She went to sleep one day, never more to awake down here.  A city of brilliant light awaiting for her, as she awoke in Heaven's courtyard free from pain within the Angels gathered around her and took her by the hand.    Peggy Whitesell was Serenaded by Angels into Heavens Gates on April 13, 2025.  She was surrounded by all of her family as she made her departure from this world.

When asked who was going to sing at her funeral, the family said she was singing of course, who else would sing.  We questioned how many funerals that Peggy she has sang at over the years. And there was to many to even start guessing.

Peggy Whitesell was born December 30, 1940, to Leon & Mozell Blassingame in Dallas Texas.

Peggy is survived by 2 Daughters: Kris Whitesell of Rowlett, Texas and son Levi of Rowlett, Tx.  Kelly Wilson and husband Randy of Wills Point, Texas, son's Lee Yancy and wife Joie of Garland, Tx, Cody Whitesell and wife Kaylyn of Farmersville, Tx.  7 Great Grand Children: Karter, Kinslee, Jaxson, Kaysyn, Addie, Macy and Colter.  Brother: Rickey Blassingame and sister in love Brenda.  Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces & Nephews, a Host of Family, and along with the Family of North Cities.
Peggy was known to many as mom, aunt Peggy, momma Peggy, mother, momma. She was also known by the late Johnny James as the Tammy Wynette of gospel music.  She was loved by so many here at north cities and will truly be missed.
She is preceded in death by her Father, Leon Blassingame and Mother Mozell Blassingame, Husband Johnny Whitesell.
For 80 years, Peggy was a beloved and steadfast prayer warrior of the North Cities Church family, pillar of faith, worship, and inspiration. The girl's reminded me that she has been singing since she was the age of 5. Her Dad and mom would put her in a chair so she could see over the pulpit so she could sing. There was not any instrument that Peggy could not play.  She learned to play by ear, and never by any sheet music.  Peggy has never sung anything outside of Gospel music.  She has recorded 2 CDs in Nashville. TN. She has always sang to glorified the lord.  If you knew Peggy, she was more than a faithful church member: she was a gifted singer whose music touched countless lives.  Peggy often sang the cherished songs "Serenaded by Angels" and "Address Change Notification." Today, the words of those songs take on new meaning, as she herself experiences the heavenly reality she so powerfully declared.
