Norma Sue Price Smith, born on October 29, 1939, in McAlester, Oklahoma, passed away on August 5, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late Beulah Lee and Otis E. Price. Norma grew up in McAlester and graduated from McAlester High School in 1957. She pursued higher education at Oklahoma Baptist University, earning a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in Business in 1961, and later obtained a Master of Science Degree with a major in Sociology from East Texas State University in 1981.
Norma dedicated her life to education, teaching in Plainview, Texas for 14 years, Greenville, Texas for 7 years, and Garland, Texas for 11 years before retiring in 1996. She also taught Sociology and Social Problems at Paris Junior College and worked as a Liaison to new teachers at Lyles Middle School in Garland ISD in 2005.
She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, Texas State Teachers Association, and PTA. Norma was actively involved in Delta Kappa Gamma, the American Association of University Women, and Kappa Kappa Iota, Chapter Beta Omicron, where she served as Secretary and President. Her dedication to teaching was recognized when she was named Teacher of the Month in 1972 by the students at College Hill Elementary and Teacher of the Year by her colleagues at Luna Elementary in Garland, Texas.
Norma is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Sallye Clack of Frisco, Sheryl and Mike Briscoe of Sachse, and Susan and Bobby Cryns of Whitney, Texas. She leaves behind seven grandchildren: Chelsea Clack of Littleton, Colorado, Shannon Clack of Frisco, Texas, Jessica Seal of Edmond, Oklahoma, Andrew Briscoe and Hayden Briscoe of Sachse, Texas, Shelby Stumbaugh of Waco, and Kyler (Caboose) Cryns of Whitney, Texas. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Addison Seal, Claire Stumbaugh, Bryson Seal, and Grayson Stumbaugh.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Williams Funeral Home in Garland, Texas. Norma will be laid to rest in McAlester, Oklahoma, next to her parents in Oak Hill Cemetery in the Masonic Gardens.
Pallbearers for the service will be:
Bobby Cryns, Kyler Cryns, Mike Briscoe, Hayden Briscoe, Andrew Briscoe, Barrett Seal, and Zac Stumbaugh.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial contributions to Samaritans Purse, as Norma relished any opportunity to help children in need
