Norma Jean Popnoe passed away while in her garden on Saturday, August 12, 2023.  You could often find her outside talking to the roses and touching them ever so softly to smell their sweet scents.

Jean was born in Stonewall, Oklahoma on February 14, 1938.  Jean often recalled going to a number of different schools while growing up as they followed her father's work to Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa and back to Snyder, Texas.   Jean graduated from Snyder High School in 1955, and it was there she met the love of her life, Carney William Popnoe, Jr ("Dub").  After graduating from high school, Jean attended business school in Abilene, Texas.

Jean was married to Dub on June 21, 1956.  Jean and Dub moved to Garland in 1960, where they raised four children, Deborah Ann, Cynthia Kay, Dana Sue, and Car.  The Popnoe family became members of First Baptist Church Garland, where they found a home away from home and were very involved in church activities.

Jean was a stay at home mother but as the children grew worked various jobs, making time for her children and all their activities.  In the 1980s, Jean and Dub started their own business called D&J Advertising.  Jean was quite the sales person and they ran it successfully for over 25 years.

Jean has always loved hearts and I guess the reason is she was born on Valentine's Day.

She always said she never wanted black worn at her funeral only bright colours like the ones she loved which celebrate life in all its brilliance.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Carney W. Popnoe, Jr., her 2nd husband, - Paul Ger, her parents, Horace J. Edelman and Zelda Lois Whittington Edelman Dowell.  Survivors include her children, Deborah A. Popnoe, Cynthia Popnoe-Hoad and husband Neil S. Hoad, Dana van Ormer, Carney W. Popnoe III, her grandchildren, Sara Jean Popnoe and Blythe Denali van Ormer, her siblings, Leah Lumeada Edelman King, Dahl Edelman and wife Kathy Edelman, Lloyd Edelman and wife Vicky Edelman.
