Mika (Micky)
Leigh Black
Sep 8, 1938 — May 15, 2024
Wylie
September 8, 1938 – May 15, 2024
Mika Leigh Hamlin Black (Micky), 85, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024. Born to Doyle and Della Hamlin on September 8, 1938, Micky's family have been long time residents of Garland, Texas, where she was a proud graduate of Garland High School, class of 1957.
Micky married Tommy Ray Black on June 6, 1958, and their union was marked by deep love and partnership until Tommy's passing on December 31, 2020. Together, they shared a love for the Dallas Summer Musicals, holding season tickets for over 30 years, and enjoyed caring for their four-and-a-half-acre property in Wylie, Texas. Micky and Tommy cherished their vacations to Disneyworld and yearly drives through New Mexico and Colorado, where they honeymooned at a dude ranch. For many, a dude ranch might not be the ideal honeymoon location, but for Micky, nothing could be more romantic than riding horses through the beautiful mountains of Colorado. She also loved dogs; she had many dogs over the years, including cherished collies during her youth. An avid reader, Micky spent countless hours immersed in novels about her favorite four-legged heroes.
In her later years, Micky and Tommy cherished quiet moments together, often holding hands and sharing glances as if they were still teenagers in love. Her gentle heart, warm smile, and the unwavering support she offered everyone will be deeply missed.
No summary of Micky's life would be complete without acknowledging her spirited, uncompromising strength. No one dared cross her family, and woe betide anyone who had to tell her no. Her remarkable blend of sweetness and resilience made her one of the most admirable and memorable women one could ever encounter. Micky was the glue that held the family together, organizing holidays and ensuring all birthdays were properly celebrated.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Micky leaves behind her sons, Keith Black and his wife Juliana, Eric Black and his wife Jami, and Brandon Black. She was a cherished grandmother to Alexander, Christopher, Heather, Rachel, Samuel, and Joseph, whose lives were brightened by her love and kindness.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, at the Chapel in First Baptist Church, Garland, at 10:30 a.m. A viewing will be held that morning at 9:30 am, at 801 W. Ave D, Garland, TX 75040.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Coventry Reserve, a facility dedicated to adults with special needs. Contributions can be made at https://coventryreserve.org/index.php/donate.
The Black family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and friends who supported Micky during her final days. Micky's life will be remembered and treasured forever.
