Michael Divine

1947 - 2023

Michael "Bruce" Divine was born on March 21, 1947 to Margueriete and Leonard Divine in San Antonio, Tx. After a hard-fought battle with heart disease and complications, he passed away on May 7, 2023 at his home in Garland, Tx.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sue Divine, brothers, Dennis Divine and Craig Divine, and grandson Nathan Blankenship. He is survived by his wife Yvonne, daughter Melissa and her husband Mikey Oliver, son Jeff Divine and his wife Brandi, and stepson Steven Blankenship and his wife Peggy. Also sisters Paula Divine, Nancy and her husband Jim Soza, and Gail and her husband Kevin Seipp, brother-in-law Joe Foitasek and his wife Nancy, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews.

Bruce was the oldest out of 6 children growing up, and they all looked to him as the best big brother anyone could ever have. As a military family, they lived in Texas and Illinois, as well as Germany where Bruce was the captain of his high school basketball team. After 1 year at SMU, Bruce joined the U.S. Army. His tour in Vietnam occurred during the Tet offensive. He rose to Staff Sergeant with recognitions. After his service was complete, he lived in Austin, Tx and obtained his bachelor degree at the University of Texas.

Upon finishing college, Bruce moved to the Dallas area and started his career at the IRS as a Treasury agent.He stayed with the IRS for 38 years and served in many areas and positions, including a year in Washington, D.C.

Bruce was all about family and spent as much time as he could with siblings in San Antonio while raising his son and daughter in Garland. They enjoyed many family vacations to attend sporting events and see various parts of the country. But their favorite was always the annual trip to go snow skiing. Christmas was always a time Bruce loved. He wanted to make it as special as he could for his children and later, his grandchildren, too. His generosity will always be remembered.

After retiring, Bruce continued to travel. He and his wife Yvonne were blessed to see many countries all over the world. But his main focus was always family. He loved spending many years with his grandchildren, taking them to theme parks and historical sites, and playing a role in their education.

Bruce also spent time during retirement to serve his community. He delivered Meals on Wheels routes on a regular basis for many years, as well as volunteering two days a week at the Good Samaritan Food Pantry in Garland until he was forced to quit due to health concerns.

Bruce was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be at Williams Funeral Home on Friday, May 12, 2023 starting at 1:00 pm. Services will follow at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry of Garland or the Garland Crimestoppers.
