Obituary

Mary Jane Brooks, 83, was born to Louvina Thomas on January 2, 1942, in Neosho, Missouri. She passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025.

Mary Jane graduated from Neosho High School. Following graduation, she worked as a receptionist for Allen Electric Company in Neosho. She later worked at a local diner making fountain drinks, where she met the love of her life, Carl Brooks. Mary Jane and Carl were married for 52 wonderful years.

Mary Jane's greatest joy was her family, but she also had a deep love for sewing and quilting. She was a member of several quilting groups, including the Neighborhood Craft Group, Garland Quilt Guild, Dallas Quilt Guild, Twisted Thimbles, and others. Every quilt Mary Jane created was made with love and care. She cherished her many friendships from her neighborhood, quilting groups, Neosho High School Reunion Group, and Wylie Opera.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Brooks; daughter, Carla Jane Brooks; mother, Louvina Thomas; sisters, Irene Lewis and Alice Harns; and brothers, Billy Thomas, Floyd Thomas, and Gene Thomas.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Janie and Mark McGaughey, and Sheri Kemp; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Brian and Katy Young; granddaughter, Katelynn Kemp; twin grandsons, Brooks and Banks McGaughey; great-granddaughter, Reagan Young; great-grandson, Henry Young; and one great-grandbaby on the way.

Mary Jane was a loving wife, mother, and MeMe who always put her family first. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the CC Young team and staff for their compassionate care.
