Mary Frances Thomas, affectionately known as "Sister," passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at the age of 90 in Dallas, Texas. Born on January 14, 1936, in Orr, Oklahoma, to Jesse Lee Hagin and Gertrude Elizabeth Walker, Mary spent her early years in McKinney, Wylie, Matador, Plano, and Garland, Texas.
Throughout her life, Mary was a woman of determination, service, and accomplishment. She proudly served in the United States Army and later earned an Associate Degree in the Arts. A driven entrepreneur and business owner, Mary built a successful career while never wavering in her dedication to her family. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life as she also served her community as a notary public. Above all, she was a devoted mother and the cherished matriarch of her family, providing guidance, strength, and love to generations who will forever be grateful for her influence.
Mary's interests were as varied as they were passionate. She found joy in the fine arts and worked part-time in art galleries. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and reading—activities that brought warmth, comfort, and happiness to those around her.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vance M. Thomas; her brother, Kern "Bud" Hagin; and her brother, Donald Hagin.
Mary is survived by her loving son, Keith Thomas; her sister, Jean Hagin Aulik; her cousin, Charles Walker; her niece, Renay Nieto; her nephews, Terry Hagin and Gary Hagin; her niece, Kim Aulik; her granddaughter, Kelly Youngblood and her husband, Eric; her grandson, Jason Thomas; and her great-grandchildren, Adeline and Wyatt Youngblood. She also leaves behind many other cherished relatives and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
In accordance with her wishes, Mary Frances Thomas, a proud veteran of the United States Army, will be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date. Her ashes will be placed beside those of her beloved husband, Vance Marion Thomas, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served during the Korean War, in the columbarium at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, reuniting them in their final resting place.
Mary Frances Thomas's legacy of love, dedication, service, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
