Leon Montague McCormick Jr., age 81, passed away on August 12, 2026.

A proud veteran, Leon honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy, holding the rank of Radarman Seaman (RDSN). His military service and experience working with naval electronics provided a natural bridge into his civilian life.

Following his time in the Navy, Leon became a true pioneer in the field of Information Technology. He began his tech career in the industry’s earliest days when the field was still known simply as Engineering, long before it became a standalone department. A dedicated professional, he ultimately retired from ACS in 2019 after 26 years of loyal service, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and mentorship.

Outside of his professional life, Leon appreciated the finer, simpler pleasures. An avid reader, he could often be found lost in the pages of a great book or locked in a competitive game of Cribbage. He had a deep love for cinema and thoroughly cherished his weekend routines, especially gathering with loved ones over a good brunch.

Above all, Leon’s greatest joy was his extensive family. His legacy of intelligence, warmth, and love lives on through the generations he helped build.

Leon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Linda McCormick.

He is survived by his son Michael McCormick and his wife Wendi; his son Matthew McCormick and his wife Angela; as well as 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.

An inurnment service with military honors will be held at 10:15 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Leon's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, NPR, The Family Place, or the Genesis Women's Shelter.
