Obituary

Judie Carol Dodson

Judie Carol Dodson of Rowlett, TX, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, on May 17, 2026, at the age of 85.  She was born on December 11, 1940 to Jack and Deott Collard in Fort Worth, TX.  Judie graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth.

After high school, Judie attended Texas Christian University, where she met her husband, James Franklin Dodson (Jim). They were married for 60 years.  Judie and Jim married on December 9, 1960. While Jim was on a football scholarship at TCU, sons Mark and Mike were born.  After graduation, Jim and Judie moved to Round Rock, TX where he began his coaching career.

In the mid 1960's they moved to Garland, TX where daughter Lisa was born.  Jim was a very successful high school football coach and Judie held down the fort.  She stayed home with Mark, Mike, and Lisa and soon became a safe haven for many of the neighborhood kids.  She shuttled everyone around to all of their activities, took pride in keeping her home beautiful, and prepared a home cooked meal every night.  She was a wonderful wife and a loving mother.

Jim and Judie raised their children at Saturn Road Church of Christ, in Garland, TX.  Judie made sure they were there every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night.  She was a wonderful Christian example for her family and friends.

In her early 70's, Judie was confined to a nursing home for many years while suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.  The family would like to thank Holding Hands Hospice and specifically her hospice nurse, Anne Hanna, who took special care of her for the last few years.  Lisa hired a dear friend, Janet Trowbridge, to provide additional help as an extra caregiver for Judie.  Janet would visit Judie several times a week, help her get ready for bed, and sometimes politely put up with all the shenanigans that went along with her Alzheimer's diagnosis.  Janet went above and beyond to care for Judie and they formed a special bond.  The family greatly appreciates Janet and the kind care she gave to Judie.

Judie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Dodson, her parents, Jack and Deott Collard, and her granddaughter Morgan.  She is survived by her sons, Mark Dodson and Mike Dodson, and daughter Lisa Fox (Rex).  Her grandchildren include Brandon Dodson, Jacklyn Chapasko, Markie Emory (Billy), David Chapasko (Sarah), Michael Chapasko, and Taylor Dodson. Judie's great grandchildren are Avery Dodson, Berkeley Dodson, Franklin Emory, and Andrew Chapasko.  She is survived by two brothers, Gary Collard of AZ (Sandy) and Bobby Collard of Fort Worth.  She had eight nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
