Celebrating the Life of Joyce Alice Simon
Joyce Alice Simon, 82, of Sansom Park, Texas, passed away peacefully on
Monday afternoon, February 2, 2026.
Joyce was born on January 31, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Johnnie and Willie Mae
Bowser, who preceded her in death. When she was a young child, the family moved to
Los Angeles, California, where she spent her childhood and formative years.
Joyce was known for her outgoing spirit and enthusiasm. She was a cheerleader and
graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, California in 1961. She loved
music and enjoyed traveling to Mexico, a place she visited often.
In 1958, while spending time at a local skating rink and gliding along to her favorite
song, "Hold On, I'm Coming" by Sam & Dave, Joyce met Frank Simon. They later
married and welcomed three children. They remained close friends throughout their
lives.
Joyce built a meaningful career, as a supervisor at Pacific Bell Telephone Company,
where she became one of the few African American women to hold a managerial
position. She later worked as a meat clerk for Ralph's supermarket.
Above all, she will be remembered for the deep love she had for her children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the joy she found in spending time with her
family.
She is survived by her children: Tracey M. Simon, Frank M. (Gloria) Simon, and Autumn
M. Simon; her grandchildren: Brittany (Christopher Sr), Franchesca (Jordan), Elizabeth
Simon, and Taiylor (Salina) Williams; and her great-grandchildren: Saige, Lorenzo,
Christopher Jr., Paityn, Mahlik Antwan, and Haivyn.
She is also survived by cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her maternal and paternal grandparents; her
brother, Johnnie Bowser; her sister, Sharon Braden; and her grandson, Tyrone Williams.
A visitation service honoring Joyce will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at
Williams Memorial Chapel, 1600 S. Garland Avenue, Garland, Texas 75040, from 6:00
