In Loving Memory of

John Whitesell

1935 - 2023

John Francis Whitesell, born April 13, 1935 in Mountain View, Oklahoma, passed into the arms of his Savior on August 4, 2023 in Dallas, Texas at 88 years old. He worked at Delta airlines as a mechanic, then Assit Gnr foreman for 35 years. He served his country in the United States Army for two tours. When asked at the hospital who his favorite singer was, he proudly replied, "His wife." He was a rare combination; a southern gentleman who had a love for life, his beloved wife of 66 years, but most of all a deep love for God and his family. He will be dearly missed in all the lives he touched.

Johhny Whitesell was a jack of all trades. There wasn't a lawn mower or tractor he could not fix. If Heaven has grass we know without a doubt every mower and tractor would be running top notch. Oil would be changed and tires would be aired up. Johnny was a great role model. Even outside of the immediate family. He was called "Adopted Dad, Grand-Dad and Uncle." He never met a stranger, and everyone loved him. Johnny would see someone broken down on the side of the road and stop to help them. We begged him to stop, but that legacy was passed down to his grandsons. They are so much like their grand-dad, always willing to help a stranger.

Johnny was a member of the church social group, with Bro. Eldon Michaels, Bro. Woodie Hargrove, and Bro. Roy Hargrove. They would all meet before church to solve the world's problems. I know these great men were so happy to see him so their social group would be back together again. Johnny's favorite saying was, "I'm going to see a man about a horse." We learned at an early age about that horse he was going to see. It meant he was going to do some horse trading or going to Lou's Cafe to drink coffee.

His beloved wife, Peggy, supported him in all his glory during his career and lovingly supported him so completely during his last days with us. The whole last week while he was in the hospital there was her CD playing for him to hear. You could ask Johnny who his favorite singer was, and everyone would know; his wife, Peggy Whitesell. He loved his wife unconditionally. Over the last years they would sit together and hold hands. But most of all, he loved the Lord and his family. He gave endlessly. Over the last few days the kids and grandkids would talk about the money they would find. And even with the newest great-granchildren, when they started to leave he would reach into his wallet and give them money.

The legacy that Johnny has left on this family, we will never forget, and we will continue his legacy forever.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 66 years, Peggy Blassingame Whitesell; daughters Kristin Whitesell of Rowlett Tx and Kelly Wilson and husband Randy of Wills Point, Tx; grandchildren, Lee Yancy and wife Joie of Garland, Tx, Cody Whitesell and wife Kaylyn of Farmersville, Tx, and Levi Whitesell of Rowlett, Tx; 6 great-granchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in passing by his parents and seven siblings.
