Joan Burch, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 10th,
2024 at the age of 90. She was born on April 10th 1934 in Mineola Texas to Maldon and Lillian
Smiley. Joan lived a life characterized by love, laughter, and compassion, leaving behind a
legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Joan was married to her beloved husband James (Jim) Burch for 67 years, and together they
shared many cherished moments over the years. Their bond is a testament to the enduring
power of love and companionship.
She is survived by her husband Jim Burch, her sister Marsha Innerarity, Her son and daughter-
in-law Joel and Tonya Burch, her grandson Garret Burch, and her granddaughter Erin Ferrell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Maldon and Lillian Smiley, her brother Max Smiley,
and her sister Virgina Walls.
Joan was a devout Christian with unshakable faith and love for Jesus. Her spiritual journey was
an integral part of her life, providing her with strength, comfort, and guidance through all of life's
challenges and triumphs.
In addition to her faith, Joan had a passion for painting, which she pursued with creativity and
joy. Her artwork reflected the beauty she saw in the world around her and brought joy to all who
admired it. She also had a green thumb and found solace in tending to her flower gardens. The
vibrant colors and fragrant blooms brought her immense joy and serenity, and her garden was a
reflection of her nurturing spirit.
As a Mother, Joan was a source of unwavering support and encouragement to her family. She
took immense pride in their accomplishments and found joy in their happiness. Her love knew
no bounds and will continue to guide them in the days ahead.
Joan was also a beloved grandmother to her grandchildren, Garret and Erin. She delighted in
their company, showering them with affection and wisdom. Her presence brought warmth and
joy to their lives, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever.
Beyond her roles within her family, Joan was a pillar of her community, known for her kindness
and generosity. She touched the lives of many with her gentle spirit and compassionate nature,
leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Although Joan has passed from this world, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who
were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and strength, fueled by her
unwavering faith, will continue to inspire future generations.
Visitation will be held Sunday April 14th, from 4pm-8pm at Williams Funeral Directors in Garland
Texas, followed by a graveside service Monday April 15th, at 10am held at Sacred Heart
Cemetery.
Rest in peace, dear Joan. You will forever be cherished and remembered.
