Jamie Mason
Gibbs
Jan 18, 1963 — May 6, 2023
GARLAND
Jamie Mason Gibbs passed away on the morning of May 6th, 2023 due to COVID19 at the Methodist Richardson Medical Center. Jamie had just celebrated her 60th birthday in January. We mourn her passing but rejoice that she is free of the debilitating pain of bone-on-bone arthritis that slowly took away her mobility in the last years of her life. She no longer has to cry when there is news of a school shooting or hate crime or legislation that attacks who people are and how they want to love. She bled for everyone and quietly carried the weight of the world on her shoulders. She touched so many lives.
She was born in New Orleans to her parents, Esther and Russel Mason. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Russel (Rusty) Mason, and the five angel babies that we lost before finally carrying a child to term. She is survived by that child, Christopher, her husband Joseph V Gibbs III, four sisters Veronica (Ronnie) Mason Merchant (Wayne), Reve' Mason, Geri Mason Waguespack (Kenny), Trina Mason Mancuso (Paul), and a plethora of cousins, nieces and nephews. Jamie was born and raised in New Orleans where she met Joseph. She married him and followed him to Texas where they spent nearly 31 magical years together. Her favorite vacation spot was Walt Disney World which we visited many, many times, sometimes even squeezing in four trips on a single season pass. Music was a very big part of her life and she had a beautiful singing voice. In high school, Jamie and Trina played guitar and sang at masses and sang in concert choir. Jamie also won Excellent Low Voice Solo in the State Literary rally in 1980 as a Junior.
