Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Iva Nell Thomason. She lost her battle with dementia on December 4, 2024. She passed away peacefully in her sleep.

She was born in Merit, Texas on August 25, 1940, to Rosa and Lester Moss where she grew up with her two brothers and two sisters. She married her love, George Thomason on July 13, 1957. They lived in Garland, Texas where they had three daughters. They were married for 53 years before his death in 2010.

Iva loved children. She made her career in the Garland Independent School District as a Cafeteria Manager where the children would lovingly refer to her as Grandma. Though most of her memories had faded, the love she felt from the children she still talked about until her death.

Her favorite pastime was needlepoint and crocheting. We all have beautiful things that she has made for us over the years to remember and cherish her.

Iva was a member of South Garland Baptist Church for 38 years. She enjoyed volunteering and served on the Greeters Committee and the Prime Timers Committee. She especially enjoyed spending time with her Prime Timers group.

Family was especially important to her, and she loved nothing more than having everyone together. The holidays will not be the same without her. Iva spent the last 10 months living at one of the Distinguished Senior Living Residential Homes in Terrell, Texas where she was wonderfully cared for. They all soon became her family. We appreciate the love and care that was extended to her by the caregivers and the nurses and aide with Angel Valley Hospice.

Iva is survived by her two daughters: Debra DeBona (Chris) and Cindy Blakemore (Jerry); four grandchildren:  Jeremy Blakemore, Holly Blakemore, Wesley DeBona, Allie DeBona along with her brother, Jack Moss and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Thomason; daughter, Malinda Thomason; parents Rosa and Lester Moss; siblings: JoAnn Briggs, Carolyn Heath, Ronnie Moss; nieces and nephew: Carah Donahue, Kaleigh Moss, Joshua Buck, and her sweet and often crazy cat, Precious who passed away a week prior.

If you wish, in lieu of flowers you can make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in her honor.
