Obituary

H. Richard "Rich" Oglesby, aged 75, passed away at BridgingLife Hospice in Carroll County, Maryland, on July 29, 2023, after a two-year battle with prostate cancer.

Rich was born to George and Merle Oglesby in Dallas, Texas on August 9, 1947 and graduated from Garland High School in 1965. At GHS, Rich was an avid trumpet player who was active in the Fighting Owls Marching Band. Rich graduated from East Texas State University – the "Old ET" – in 1970 with a Bachelors of Business Administration. Following graduation, Rich worked for the United States Treasury before moving into a career in sales. He fondly remembered his time at Safeco Insurance Company, where he developed friendships that remained strong even at his passing.

Rich was a Texan through and through and spoke often about his childhood years with his family in East Texas. He loved music and remembered family members playing old banjos and singing on the front porch. Rich was also a true-blue Texas sports fan and was known by all his friends for his unwavering support of the Dallas Cowboys. He additionally loved coaching his son Daniel's little league baseball team, and over the past two years he was an enthusiastic attendee at his grandson's little league baseball games in Maryland. Rich also enjoyed gardening and golfing. More than anything, Rich loved being a grandpa, cherished cuddling his grandbabies and watching them grow into amazing kids.

Rich is survived by his children: daughter Amanda Oglesby and husband, Griffin Rooker, son Daniel Oglesby and wife Cholly; grandchildren: Jacob Sherrouse, Lillian Sherrouse, Dean Rooker, Lillian Rooker, Everett Rooker, Grace Oglesby and Sarah Oglesby.

A graveside service will be held September 17, 2023, 10:30am, at Garland Memorial Park  followed by a reception at Williams Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rich's name can be made to BridgingLife Hospice or Wounded Warriors.
