Obituary

Gracie Lou Johnson, beloved aunt, friend, and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away at her home on January 20, 2026. Born on July 17, 1943, in Overton, Texas, to Johnny Ector and Gladys Thompson, Gracie moved to the Garland-Rowlett area as a child, where she grew up and formed lifelong friendships.

Gracie attended Carver High School in Garland, Texas, where her warm spirit and genuine kindness left a lasting mark on those around her. She married Eddie Johnson of Dallas, standing faithfully by his side for over 20 years until his passing in 2006.

Though Gracie did not have children of her own, she poured her love and devotion into her nephew, James Hawkins, Jr., supporting him through life's journeys with unwavering dedication. She was also a loving presence in the lives of her great-nieces, Tatiyonna and Sydney Hawkins, encouraging and celebrating all their endeavors.

Gracie's career included many years in Laundry Services at Richardson Manor Nursing Home and later as an attendant at Goodwill Industries. Upon retiring, she devoted her time to family and community, always ready with her infectious laugh and welcoming smile. Known for her signature greeting, "Hey there honey – how you doing," Gracie loved sharing stories of her childhood adventures in East Texas, captivating all who listened.

A woman of deep faith, Gracie credited the Lord as her strength and guide throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eddie Johnson and her sister Johnnie Johnson.

Gracie Lou Johnson is survived by her nephew James Hawkins, Jr. (Shawntell) of Garland, her great-nieces Tatiyonna and Sydney Hawkins, and a host of family and friends who will forever cherish the memories she leaves behind.

Her warmth, laughter, and love have left a lasting legacy. Gracie's memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
