Obituary

Elaine (Rummelhart) Brown peacefully passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023, in Carrollton, Texas. She was born on April 27, 1923, in Riverside, Iowa, to Clarence Rummelhart and Clara (Shebanek) Rummelhart. Growing up on a farm in Riverside with her eight siblings, Elaine, being the eldest, took on the responsibility of caring for her younger brothers and sisters while her parents tended to the farm.

Elaine received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Riverside. With the outbreak of World War II, she bravely joined the United States Navy in December 1943 and was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. Elaine served her country honorably and was discharged in January 1946, holding the rank of Seaman First Class. Returning home, she married her late husband, David L. Brown, on November 25, 1949. Together, they embarked on a journey that took them to Denver, Colorado, where David worked. During their time in Denver, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Kim.

Subsequently, Elaine and David returned to Iowa, where David found employment on a farm. They expanded their family with the births of three more children: Debbie, Dennis, and David. In 1956, they made another move, this time to Garland, Texas, where they established their home and welcomed four additional children: Cindy, Dwight, Diane, and Davina. Elaine and David cherished 49 years of marriage until David's passing in 1999.

Elaine recently celebrated her 100th birthday on April 27th, surrounded by loved ones who joined in honoring her remarkable milestone. She thoroughly enjoyed the festivities held in her honor. Elaine is survived by her sisters, Esther Spevacek of Iowa City and Joanne Horesowksy of Richmond, as well as her brothers, Hubert Rummelhart of Iowa City and Richard (Dick) Rummelhart of Des Moines.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kim and Glen Christopher of Denton, Texas; Debbie Morgan of Frisco, Texas; Dennis and Maricela Brown of Dallas, Texas; David and Teena Brown of Utah; Cindy Brown of Garland, Texas; Dwight and Faye Brown of Texarkana, Texas; Diane Davis of Batesville, Arkansas; and Davina and Randy Burdick of Lakeland, Florida. Elaine also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Clara, her sister Gertrude Landry, and her brothers Elmer, Lester, and Theodore Rummelhart. Additionally, she mourned the loss of her granddaughter Miranda.
