The world became a brighter place on June 27, 1938 when Doris Marie Caldwell was born in Dallas, Texas.  As a teenager, she was known as the Songbird of Garland High because of her beautiful singing voice. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  She was precious to those who were blessed to know her and made all of her loved ones feel as if they were her favorite person in the world.  She was brave, resilient, strong, kind, loyal, creative, generous, hilarious, loved to have fun and was forever 16.

After a long and happy life, she peacefully went to heaven on February 26, 2024.  She is preceded in death by husband William Edward Smith, Parents William (Bill)  Caldwell and Christene Caldwell, Brother William Earl Caldwell, daughter Debbie Marie Smith and son Jimmy Edward Smith.

She is survived by Husband Mark Perry Walters, children Judy Hays (and husband Norman Hays), Jeff Smith (and wife Tressa Smith), Crystal Rothermel (and husband Jason Rothermel), Alisha Walpole (and husband Chad Walpole) grandchildren Bridget, Jennifer, Brian, Brady, Hunter, Garrett, Katie, Jaycee, Jessica, Candace, Jacob, Reese, Reid, Gemma, Clark, and Samantha.  Great-Grandchildren Brianna, Tristan, Bella, Kaitlyn, Nolan, Noah, Jett, Rowan, Jentry, Josie, Magnolia, Landrey, Lucas, Xavier and Walker.

To honor Mamma Doris' memory, the family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Directors 1600 S Garland Ave Garland, Texas on Wednesday February 28 from 6-8pm and her celebration of life will take place Thursday, February 29 at 1pm followed by interment at Big A Cemetery 4500 Big A Road Rowlett, Texas 75088. We invite anyone who knew her to attend and share memories of her beautiful life.
