Donna Kay King-Jones, 75, of Garland, TX, passed away on May 1, 2023.

Donna was born on December 25, 1947 to Loyd and Peggy King in Denton, TX. After graduating from Garland High School in 1966, she went on to study History and Education at Stephen F Austin State University and graduated from SFA in 1970 with her Bachelor's degree.  She went on to later get a Master's Degree in Counseling from Stephen F Austin State University as well.

After graduation, she became certified to teach and began her teaching career in Garland Independent School District.  Donna spent 24 years teaching History throughout GISD and held teaching positions at Sellers Middle School, Sam Houston Middle School, and Lakeview High School.  She spent her career investing in the lives of her students, and it is not uncommon to run into people that she taught who remembered her fondly.  She was also infamous amongst her family for taking any trip or vacation and trying to turn it into a learning experience as well by pointing out and wanting to stop at any and all historical markers she could find.

Donna met her husband, Tony Jones, in high school and they were high school sweethearts.   After some years apart, they reconnected and began dating again and they wed in September of 2012.  Donna and Tony got to spend the last 11 years traveling together, spending time with many friends, and cheering on their Garland Owls.

After retiring in 2002, Donna spent her time traveling and working part-time at the Nicholson Memorial Library Main Branch in downtown Garland.

One of the things that Donna loved most was her family.  She would most often be found spending time with her family. Whether it was going on vacation, being present for holidays, attending school events, or numerous other events, she was always present for her family.

Donna was preceded in death by parents, Loyd and Peggy King, and nephew, Robert Dunlap. She is survived by husband, Tony Jones (Garland, TX); sister, Dana Dunlap (Garland, TX); niece and her husband, Jamye and Doug Cook (Garland, TX); great-nieces, Mychele Dunlap (Fort Collins, CO), Makayla Dunlap (Fort Collins, CO), and Krista Cook (Oklahoma City, OK); and great-nephew, Mitchell Cook (Norman, OK), as well as numerous cousins.
