In Loving Memory of

David Ray Holt

1949-2023

David Ray Holt, loving husband, wonderful father, proud and doting grandfather and caring brother, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 13, 2023, at the age of 74.

David was born November 10, 1949, in Dallas, TX, to parents Martin and Nancy Holt. He graduated from Garland High School in 1968 and joined the United States Navy. He served his country for four years during the Vietnam war and was a crew member of the USS Iowa Jima that rescued the Apollo 13 astronauts when returning from space, landing in the Pacific Ocean on April 17, 1970. He joined the workforce after leaving the Navy, and worked diligently for Siemens Rolm as a technician for 40 years. In June 1973, he married the love of his life, Suzanne Starns, with whom he shared their Garland home on Rex Lane for 48 years where they lovingly raised their two children, Stephanie and Patrick. At the age of 40, David was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease which he ultimately survived after undergoing intensive surgery that affected him the rest of his life. He was a quiet and reserved man that never complained. He was also very kind, tough, patient and quick-witted. He loved to read, work around his home and vehicles, watch detective shows, play video games and go to the shooting range. But mostly, he loved being with his kids and grandkids. He made it a point to attend as many, if not all, of their extracurricular activities that he could. He supported and served his family ardently throughout his whole life, whether it be making school lunches, cooking dinner, playing catch or helping Suzanne rearrange and store copious amounts of home decorations.

David was heartbroken when his wife, Suzanne Holt, passed on February 24, 2023, just 4 months short of fifty years of marriage. David faithfully and dutifully acted as caretaker for her the last decade of her life as her health declined. After her passing, he spent his last months staying with his children and grandchildren. He passed peacefully December 13, 2023, with his daughter, Stephanie, sister in law, Lila and brother in law, Terry, by his side. He will forever be in our hearts and the memories we have with him will never be forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Holt. His father, Martin Holt, his mother, Nancy "Nana" Holt, his grandparents, Bertie Maynard and Ervin Montgomery Maynard. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Moore and husband, Michael of Rockwall; his son Patrick Holt and wife, Natalie of Frisco; his four grandchildren Carter and Grace Moore, and Charlotte and Oliver Holt; his sister and brother in law, Gayle and Gary Hardi of Mesquite. His sisters in law, Judy Hodges of Garland, and Lila Slovacek-Conner and husband Terry of Rowlett; and many other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Garland, TX on January 13, 2024 at 10:30am. Reception immediately to follow the service in the Bluebonnet Hall.
