David Charles
Harris
Oct 22, 1946 — Feb 25, 2024
El Paso
David Charles Harris passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and loved ones
on February 25, 2024. He was born on October 22, 1946 in El Paso, Texas, to mother, Regine
Harris and father, Earl Calvin Harris. David had a wide and varied career working for many
agencies, including the FBI and the Air Force commissary in Turkey. In 1975 he moved to
Dallas and met the love of his life, Patricia, and in a few short months they married on October
8, 1975.
David was the proud owner of David's Meat Market in Garland, Texas, since 1982, before
retiring in 2015 and leaving the Meat Market in his grandson, Devon McDougall's capable
hands. Along with David's rub, the Meat Market's famous slogan, "You Can't Beat Our Meat" was
emblazoned on their hats and T-shirts! David's impeccable knowledge of the beef industry and
Pat's fantastic recipes were available to anyone who asked. David never shyed away from
sharing his gifts with anyone who would listen.
To all who knew David, he was a jokester and a storyteller. Many of their friends and customers
would drop by the Meat Market just to tell him their latest dirty joke or to hear his, which he
would then promptly work to refine and rehearse to make sure he got an even bigger laugh
when he dropped the punch line the next time! David had a heart as good as gold. He would
drop whatever he was doing if a friend, family member, or especially his children or
grandchildren needed help, even if it was just a soft shoulder to cry on or a big bear hug.
David loved dove hunting and shooting squirrels, fishing for bass, and eating catfish. His hearty
belly laugh could be heard across a crowded room and he loved, loved, loved his family. David
and Pat travelled around the country visiting family and friends, sight-seeing in Niagara Falls,
Hawaii, Key West, Las Vegas, Cancun, Oklahoma, Ohio and Aruba, just to name a few of the
many adventures they shared.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann Harris, his brother-in-law, Phillip Wallin and
wife, Charolotte, sister-in-law, Terry Harris, his children David Harris, Jr. and wife, Marion, Kimberly Kinney, Wayne Harris,
Annette Campbell and husband, Scott, Vonda Munoz and husband, Sonny, and Pearl Silvey
and husband, Mike. His grandchildren include Devon McDougall and wife, Amber, Courtney
England, and husband, JT, Caylor Bratcher and wife, Jennifer, Drake Harris, Dakota Harris and
wife, Ariel, Cyle Harris, Jesse and Micah Kinney and Emily Silvey. David loved all twelve of his
great grandchildren so much and he was especially blessed to spend time recently babysitting
his youngest great grandson, Gavin.
David is preceded in death by parents, Regine and Earl, his brother Earl Harris and sister,
Nanette Harris, and his granddaughter, Cayla and nephew, Levi Wallin. He will be deeply
missed by his loving family and many wonderful friends.
