Bruce Michael Rogers, 76, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, January 13, 2023.  He is preceded in death by his father John August Rogers and mother Helen Virginia.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years Sharon Rogers, daughter Katherine Rogers, brother Carl Rogers, his wife Judy Rogers, mother-in-law Helen Lowe, and aunt Grace Smith.

Bruce was born in Evanston, Illinois on April 4, 1946.  Following his graduation from high school, he was drafted into the Army where he served two years as a Sergeant in the Armored Unit on tanks in Germany.  He was a proud Veteran and proud to call Texas home. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he and a friend traveled all around the United States until they ran out of money in Texas and, as he put it, "Couldn't get out of Texas."  Bruce decided to enroll at North Texas State University and take advantage of the military paying for his college tuition.  While at the university, he worked as an NTSU campus policeman, met his future wife, and got married.  After graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration/Management, he applied to the Police Academy and was the Valedictorian.  He was hired as a policeman for the Richardson Police Department in Texas for a few years.

Bruce was elated when he was hired as an auditor with JC Penney.  He loved the travel and the people he worked with there.  When his department was dissolved, he went back to college and earned a teaching degree in math.   He won several awards as a math teacher and retired in 2012 from Garland Independent School District.

Bruce loved to travel.  He was happiest on his motorcycle, driving across country by himself or with one of his motorcycle groups.  He never hesitated if someone asked him to travel somewhere.  Cruises, car trips, plane trips, train trips, and motorcycle trips were all his favorites. His wife often followed him in her van while he was happily riding his motorcycle to different destinations.

Bruce was a Godly man, patient, quiet, a listener, but also loved to party. He always said, "yes" if you called and needed help or just a guy with a pickup truck.

The Celebration of Life for Bruce will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 11 at St. Philip's United Methodist Church at 3717 Broadway Blvd. in Garland, Texas.
