Obituary

Bruce H. Mahnken, Jr., 79, passed away on December 23, 2024. He was born on May 27, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas, four months after his father was killed in Word War II while stationed in the U.S.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Mahnken on November 3, 2020, brother, Wm Clark Colvin, and mother, Vera Fisher Colvin.

He is survived by sons, Rusty Satterfield, wife, Kim, and Bruce H. Mahnken, III, wife, Kelli; 8 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; twin brother, Bert Mahnken; and sister, Rora Shook.

Bruce lived in Big Lake, Texas from age 5 until he finished high school at Regan County High School in 1963. He attended Abilene Christian College for two years and transferred to East Texas State. Bruce graduated with a B.S. degree in 1968 and M.S. degree in 1975. He was a high school teacher for nine years, three of whom coached football and baseball. For the next 10 years Bruce had several jobs. He opened Bruce H. Mahnken Insurance Agency in Rowlett, Texas with his wife Jo Ann for the next 28 years, then they retired.

Bruce loved the city of Rowlett where he was a member of the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce for 25 years, serving as chairman and on the board of directors. He served on the Rowlett Planning and Zoning Commission for two and a half years. Bruce was elected for two terms as a city council member in Rowlett.

Bruce had a special place in his heart for his nephews Bart Mahnken and Gibson Colvin, nieces Mendy, Dana, and Rhoda. He was of the Church of Christ faith and led singing at several different churches. Bruce was always singing his church songs. Bruce and Jo Ann traveled to many places in the U.S., Europe, and went on several cruises, and they had the up most respect and love for each other for 35 years. They were married for 33 years.
