Obituary

Brenda Jo Raney Puls, 68, of Dallas, Texas passed away on September 4th, 2025, after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer.

Brenda is survived by her cherished daughter, Lauren Puls; her partner of 16 years, Nolan Icenhower; her mother, Lois Raney; her sister, Linda Cunningham and brother-in-law Curtis Parker; her nephew, Blake Cunningham; and her niece, Heather Tull. She was proceeded in death by her loving father, Joe Raney; her nephew, Jason Tull; and her sister, Cynthia "Cindy" Tull.

Brenda was born on December 11th, 1956 in Dallas, Texas to Joe and Lois Raney. Brenda was the middle child of three girls. Brenda graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, TX, where she had many lifelong friendships that she deeply cherished.

After graduating from Bryan Adams High School in 1975, Brenda worked alongside two of her best friends, Patti Miller Wiebold and Jan Pickett Trapp, at an insurance company. Later, she worked as a night shift manager at a restaurant bar called Razz Ma Taz in Dallas, TX, then as a salesperson at RB Furniture in Dallas, TX. Lastly, Brenda worked at her sister Linda's medical case management firm until she received her cancer diagnosis in 2009.

While Brenda was working at RB Furniture, she met Richard "Derek" Puls. They were married in June 1990 at the Dallas Arboretum in Dallas, Texas. In March 1991, they welcomed their one and only child, Lauren Nicole Puls. Brenda was so proud of her daughter and was looking forward to the future life milestones they would share together.

Whether she was gardening, snapping photos, making thoughtful handmade gifts, or cheering on her Dallas Cowboys, she embraced life with creativity and heart. She was frequently called magnetic and the glue to her friend group. Brenda was fondly known for her brightly colored wardrobe, but more so for how she brightened the lives of everyone around her. Brenda's positivity and tenacity are what her family and friends believe kept her fighting cancer for so long.

Brenda's family takes comfort in knowing she is free from pain and suffering. Her warm spirit and loving heart will forever remain in our memories. Her legacy is one of color, kindness, resilience, and love.
