Billy Don Kirk

Billy Don Kirk, aged 93, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, in Rowlett, Texas. He was born on August 4, 1930, to parents Roy Hugh Kirk and Roberta Sandeford Kirk in Waxahachie, and lived a full life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.

After graduating from Garland High School in 1949, Billy served his nation in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 until 1954 spending time in both Japan and the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, Billy graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in Accounting. He continued his education at East Texas State University where he earned a Master of Science in Educational Administration.

He embarked on a career as an accountant, where he worked diligently for Collins

Radio Company and Docutel Corporation. His professional journey eventually led him to the noble field of education, where he joined Garland ISD and served as a teacher, coach, and principal for 24 years. He eventually retired in 1994 as a principal after serving 19 years with Rowlett Elementary School.

Billy was a man of faith and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge No. 441 as a Master Mason, First United Methodist Church in Rowlett, and Holly Tree Chapel. His deep belief in God's grace was evident in the way he lived his life and the manner in which he treated others.

An avid golfer, Billy found joy on the golf course playing four to five times per week and will be missed by his many friends at Holly Lake. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of a good game of solitaire, the excitement of watching the Dallas Cowboys, and the companionship of his beloved dog. These pastimes were but a few of the many ways he found happiness and relaxation in his well-earned retirement.

He is survived by his children: Kathy Kirk McRobbie and husband Jim, Carolyn Kirk Harrod and husband Rob, and Perry Kirk and wife Lisa. Billy's legacy continues through his nine adoring grandchildren Mary McKee and husband Mitchell, Bill McRobbie, Kimberly McRobbie, and Rebecca McRobbie; Sabrina LaTorre and husband Julian, Randall Rasor and wife Ariana, and Justin Kirk and wife Kylie, Cody Kirk, and Kaylie Fain and husband Conner.

And great-grandchildren Finley Rose McKee, Charley Wayne McKee, Luka LaTorre, Remi LaTorre, Kolt Kirk, Kornelius Kirk, Luke Kirk, John Kyle Kirk, and step-great-grandchildren Hayden, Olivia, and Kira who will all miss him dearly.

Preceding him in death is his beloved wife, Annette Owens Kirk, his brother Charles Kirk, sister Erlene Smith, and great grandchild Tasha LaTorre with whom he now rests.

Billy's family invites friends and loved ones to join them in a celebration of his life. A service will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 1600 S. Garland Avenue, Garland, Texas, on the afternoon of Saturday, May 18 from 3-5 p.m. This gathering will be a testament to a life characterized by his generosity of spirit, devotion to family, and a profound sense of duty.
