Billy Brown Blunt (91), of Garland, TX, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, with family by his side. Bill was born in Cumby, TX in 1935, and he moved to Garland TX when he married Pat Blunt in 1957. Bill and Pat both grew up in Cumby and were married for sixty-eight years and they have two children and five grandchildren. 

   Bill was drafted in 1957 into the United States Army, SP4 E-4 (T). He was a Master Mason member of the Duck Creek Lodge 1419 of Garland and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. Bill was a buyer for Sears & Roebuck for forty-five years and his specialty was the lawn and garden department. That’s probably where he developed his love of gardening. Bill and Pat owned a local jewelry store in Garland, Classic Jewelry, for close to fifty years. 

   Bill was affectionally known as Papa and he was a Christian man who valued his family above all things. Bill was one of ten children, and he was extremely proud of his siblings, nieces, and nephews. Bill was the rock of our family, and he was a hard worker and excellent provider. Bill and Pat were soul mates from a very early age, and they created a home where everyone wanted to visit. They were known for hosting parties for their church and neighborhood friends. Their Christmas parties for family and friends were legendary; their home looked like a Hallmark special. Bill and Pat opened their home to friends and strangers in need, they were always giving to others and providing support when needed. Bill and Pat loved their date nights and dinner with friends. They also enjoyed going to Southern Gospel concerts with their church friends.

  Bill was a cowboy and for several years he owned a small ranch in Cumby with several horses. He loved going out to the barn and spending time riding horses and caring for them. Bill was a die-hard fan of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. He rarely missed watching any games and he loved attending them in person. Bill’s greatest pride and joy were Pat, his children Greg and Kelley, plus his wonderful grandchildren Bryce, Bailee, Drake, Dylan, and Hannah. He was a dedicated husband and father who loved talking about his family more than anything, especially the grandkids. Papa’s love for his grandkids had no boundaries and he would drop whatever he was doing if one of them needed him at any time. Bill Blunt was a businessman who was a hard worker, but his family was always his top priority. 

  Papa, your family loves and cherishes you, we will miss you terribly, but we are grateful that you and Nana are reunited together in Heaven. We are eternally grateful that the Lord chose you to be the rock for our family and we thank you, and Nana, for providing such a wonderful Christian home. Until we see you in Heaven, we love you! 

  Bill is preceded in death by his mother and father, his beloved wife Patsy Bowden Blunt, brother Judson Blunt, sisters Betty Blunt, Pauline Pickens, Ruby Clifton, Grace Hollmer, Margie Stewart, and Donnie Embrey. He is survived by his brother Luke Blunt, sister Judy Pollan, son Greg Blunt and daughter-in-law Lisa Blunt, daughter Kelley Dixon, and grandchildren Bryce Blunt, Bailee Blunt, Drake Dixon, Dylan Dixon, and Hannah Dixon.
