In Loving Memory of Billie Kornegay

It is with deep sorrow (and perhaps a wry smile at how he might've rolled his eyes at all this fuss) that we announce the passing of Billie Roy Kornegay on November 10, 2024.  Bill was a beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather, and a cherished friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Bill was born on May 17, 1937 in Cameron, TX, the youngest of 14 children of Roy and Teresa (Obets) Kornegay, and he spent his childhood in Gause, TX.  Known for his dry humor, his generosity, and his joy of adding to his 'collections' (from tools to trinkets to a mystery mix of useful – and not so useful – things) Bill left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Ellen with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. He is survived by his children Teresa Fitzgerald (Terence) of Washington DC; Brenton of Dallas; and Trent of Garland; his granddaughter Samantha Walker (Johnny) and 3 great-grandchildren.  He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who always knew "Uncle Bill" would bring his special brand of humor and his often-unbelievable stories to any event.

Bill was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and was a charter member of Council #6402 and over the years served in most of the leadership positions, including Grand Knight. He took great pride in being a Fourth Degree knight, a testament to his commitment, his faith, and his patriotism.  A proud veteran, Bill served in both the Army and the Air Force, stationed at home and abroad.

Known for his kindness and sense of humor, Bill leaves behind a legacy of honor, loyalty, and a spirit of fun that brightened the lives of those he touched.
