Betty Hawkins (Betty Sue Smith) was born September 14, 1936, in rural Briscoe County Texas, along the banks of the Pease River near Quitaque, Texas.

She passed away at her home in Mesquite, Texas on May 1, 2024, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

She married the love of her life Wayford E. Hawkins in 1953.  They were married for over 60 years before his passing in 2016.

Betty (Susie as the Hawkins family called her) served as Church Secretary for many years under the direction of Pastor and Chaplain Ken Ashlock at New Liberty Baptist Church in Garland, Texas.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Wayford E. Hawkins, father Glen T. Smith and mother Lola Lavada Cotton Smith, sister Peggy Smith Orsak and brother Glen T. Smith, Jr. (Butch).

Betty is survived by her sister Nancy Smith Reed, Her sister-in-law Gabby Smith, many sisters-in-law, brothers in law, nieces, and nephews.

She was loved very much by her friends and family.
