Andy Urban

Andy Urban, aged 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 26th after a long illness. A devoted father, husband, brother, and proud Bostonian, Andy’s vibrant life was defined by his dedication to his family, his kindness to his friends, his gentleness, and a wry sense of humor.

Andy was born in 1954, in Stockholm, Sweden to Polish refugees Jan and Gabriela Urban. In 1958, when he was a young child, his family immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston.

Andy graduated from the prestigious Boston Latin School in 1972 and later graduated from Boston College in 1976. It was during his time at BC that he met his future wife, Barbara. They married in 1977 and would remain together for forty-five years until her passing in 2022. Their early years together were spent in Dorchester before moving the family to Garland, Texas in 1990.

Andy loved cooking, gardening, classic films, a good paperback, and his beloved Boston Red Sox. Andy spent the majority of his career working in the IT and telecom industries and proudly served as shop steward of his CWA local before his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter, Stefanie; his son, Christopher; his brother Rich; and countless lifelong friends in New England and Texas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, his parents Jan and Gabriela, and his brother Tom.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dallas on Thursday, August 27th at 2pm with a reception to follow.

Burial at sea off the coast of Massachusetts is planned for Spring 2027. A date and location for services will be announced by the family in January.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to the UT Southwestern Simmons Cancer Center or the Boston Latin School Association.
