Obituary

Robert "Bob" Chase Harrington was born in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts on April 15, 1934 to parents Dorothy Kathleen Chase and Robert Smith Harrington, both of Massachusetts.

Bob lived in and around Needham, MA for many years, graduating high school in 1953 from Brewster Academy in Wolfboro, New Hampshire. As a student, Bob was an avid photographer, member of the glee club and known for his handsome smile and tall stature, which earned him the nickname "Hunk" from his classmates.

Following graduation, Bob joined the Air Force where he served for seven years. There, he earned a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. The Air Force shaped his life immeasurably, providing a solid sense of duty and the foundation of his career as an engineer. His distinguished work, both in and out of the service, supported the nation's Atlas missile operations, the B-58 Bomber, the F-111, and installation of intelligence gathering equipment, among many other efforts. After a lengthy career as an engineer, he retired from E-Systems of Garland, TX in 1994.

For more than 30 years, Bob was a member of Dallas' Corinthian Sailing Club (CSC) where he could be found most Sunday afternoons sailing with the Flying Scot fleet. He served on the board as vice-commodore and commodore. His passion for sailing and the betterment of the CSC was well known, earning he and his beloved wife, Kathy, the annual Spirit of Volunteerism award, named in their honor.

Though Bob had a reserved and quiet demeanor, it never stopped him from displaying his sharp humor. Never one to boast, those who knew him would note his abundant generosity and deep love of God, family and country. Classmates wrote in Bob's high school yearbook that they'd never met a more "kind and gentle" person. It is a tremendous legacy that those same words described Bob throughout his entire life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Harrington, of Garland, Texas, children Robert Harrington, and his wife Colleen, of Bow, NH; Kimberly Harrington of North Hills, CA; Karen Harrington Chapman, her husband Matt of Plano, TX; and, Joel Harrington and his former wife, Carol, of Garland, TX.

In addition, his wonderful step-children, Larry and Leigh Ann Everett of Poetry, TX; Gloria and Tony Harris of Sulphur Bluff, TX; and Judi and Paul Staggs of Carrollton, TX.

He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Transformation Anglican church in Rockwall, TX.

In service and in life, Bob was a man of integrity and kindness. We can honor and celebrate his life by extending acts of kindness to family, friends and associates.
